Aleksandr Chelidze

Aleksandr Chelidze is a dancer and a choreographer. In 1998 he graduated from the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions. From 2000 to 2003 he worked as a tutor at the Choreography Department of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions.

From 2008 to 2013 he was an artist with Sasha Kukin Dance Company. In 2009 he established his own contemporary dance group. Since 2012 he has been teaching modern dance at the ByeByeBallet School and since 2014 has been the artistic director of the ByeByeBallet Ensemble. In 2014 he joined the Department of Choreographic Art of Herzen State Pedagogical University as a senior lecturer. Since 2017 he has been the artistic director of the workshop Escabo. Contemporary Dance Stage.

As a dancer, he took part in the performances of the Kannon Dance Company “Songs of Komitas” (2008, choreographer Natalia Kasparova) and “Ararat. Revelations” (2013), in the stage production “Notes of a Madman” (directed by Zhenya Anisimov, choreographer Vladimir Varnava, 2014), in Konstantin Keikhel’s production “The Sixteenth Day” (2015), Yuri Smekalov’s ballet “Solaris” (2017), Vladimir Varnava’s production “The Vision of the Rose” (2017).

Aleksandr Chelidze acted as a choreographer of such performances as “Breath between the Walls” (2014), “Hidden” (2015), “Moa” (2016), “After Tango” (2016), “Froth on the Daydream” and “River” (directed by Tatiana Weinstein, 2016 and 2017), “Connections” (2017), “Waves” (2018), “Stones” (2018), No Name (for Igor Kolb, 2018).

Aleksandr Chelidze was nominated for the National Theatre Award “Golden Mask – 2023” for the male role in the theatre production “A Place That Nas Not Yet Existed” (project of Ksenia Mikheeva and the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation, St. Petersburg).
