Nikolay Fedorov

In the choir since 2014

Nikolai Fedorov is a laureate of the “White Acacia” International Russian romance competition (Yoshkar-Ola, 2009) and the “Cantabile” vocal competition (Perm, 2013).

Nikolai Fedorov studied vocal performance at the Izhevsk music college under Nina Varacheva, People’s Artist of the Udmurt Republic. In 2015, he graduated from the Perm State Culture University where he had studied under Valentina Perova, Honoured Artist of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).

In 2011, he became a member of the Major choir at the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theatre. Since the 2014/2015 season, Nikolai Fedorov has been a member of the musicAeterna choir.

WHAT DOES MUSIC MEAN TO YOU?
Music is a major part of my life. It always surrounds me, both at work and at home. I find being in silence uncomfortable: music makes life so much better. I don’t listen to classical music at home too often, though. I prefer more popular genres such as Russian rock music. Lyrics matter to me. I listen closely to what the song is trying to tell me. I rarely put music in the background.
WHAT DOES MUSICAETERNA SYMBOLIZE TO YOU?
The drive to push beyond the average and to be co-authors rather than craftsmen.
HOW DO YOU RELAX AFTER BIG PROJECTS?
Spending time with family and friends is the only way.
CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING ANYTHING ELSE BUT A MUSICIAN?
Definitely. I wanted to be a doctor when I was still at school. I was very interested in science. However, when I was close to graduation, I felt that music was still the way to go. This might have been fate — and I do believe in fate. Of course, I sometimes have doubts regarding my choice. I’m an introvert, so it’s not always easy for me to do my job in public. I’m always in the limelight, always looked at, so I have to struggle with myself. But my love towards music prevails in the end.
WHAT MUSIC DO YOU DREAM TO PERFORM?
I’d like to perform the part of the Yurodiviy in “Boris Godunov”. To my mind, that’s the quintessence of Russian music.

Hændel. A Dedication Ceremony to George Frideric Handel

The musicAeterna Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Teodor Currentzis, present in Moscow an updated concert version of the programme “Hændel. The Dedication Ceremony to George Frideric Handel”. It combines fragments from English oratorios and Italian operas by Handel. An anthology of theatrical music by one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era is performed on historical instruments and in the Baroque style. The concert’s full dramaturgy adheres to the principles of the ancient extravaganza, characterized by its illusory, multifaceted nature, a constant play of scales, and focused attention to voice and space.

The soloists for this large-scale project — performed in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Perm, Thessaloniki, Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona — are young and promising singers participating in the first enrollment of the Anton Rubinstein Academy.
