Currentzis Lab: Beethoven. Symphony No. 7

The Currentzis Lab format offers a unique opportunity to explore the conductor’s intention underlying the interpretation of the composition and witness how he realizes his ideas in collaboration with the orchestra.

This time, to reveal the choreographic potential of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, the orchestra’s musicians will be joined by the musicAeterna Dance. It is about this work that Wagner wrote, ‘The Symphony is the Apotheosis of the Dance itself: it is Dance in its most exalted form, the most blissful of physical movement made manifest in sound.’ Teodor Currentzis and choreographer Sasha Waltz have already conducted an experiment, combining the music of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 with contemporary dance in the ancient theatre of Delphi. During the online broadcast, the conductor and the musicAeterna Orchestra members will go even further and combine two of the most unpredictable elements – an orchestral rehearsal and plastic improvisation.
