Program

The Gifts of Byzantium series at Dom Radio ends on May 16 with a panel discussion on Post-Byzantium, featuring audience’s favourite lecturers.

On May 29, 1453, the Ottoman Turks captured Constantinople. And so the history of Basileia Romaion came to an end, but the image of Byzantium has not fallen into oblivion: the legacy of the great empire is alive and well today. We shall explain how after the fall of Constantinople the Byzantine influence found its way into many different areas of Russian and Western European culture – ideology, church, science, literature, architecture and the fine arts.

How did Greek scholars influence the development of humanism in Italy? Where in our time can you find pockets of Byzantine life? What architectural landmarks in Russia were built in the Byzantine style? Learn about this and much more at the final panel discussion of the Gifts of Byzantium project, together with Julia Mantova, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Svetlana Maltseva, Candidate of Art History, Andrey Vinogradov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Grigory Vorobyev, PhD in Philology, Igor Ivanov, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, and Dmitry Chernoglazov, Candidate of Philological Sciences.

Participants:

Julia Mantova, Dmitry Chernoglazov, Svetlana Maltseva, Igor Ivanov, Andrey Vinogradov, Grigory Vorobyov
