Details
Death in Venice is not the last film by Luchino Visconti, however, it is often perceived as the result and quintessence of his directorial style. Such effect is almost inevitable, since the author creates such an integral iconography.
⠀
Based on the novel by Thomas Mann, Death in Venice tells the story of the composer Gustav von Aschenbach, who goes on vacation to Venice at a time of personal and creative crisis. The image of the main character is “copied” from Gustav Mahler, whose music appears as a full-fledged character of the film. The Adagietto from the Fifth Symphony is not simply a recurring film theme, but “theme of fate” of a sort.

After the screening, there will be Q&A featuring Teodor Currentzis.
