Program

The Lux Aeterna programme encompasses ten centuries of Russian and European sacred music. The works of modern composers are combined with medieval music and – paradoxically – they speak the same language. Despite all the complexity and variety of the music performed, the programme is harmonious and forms a single musical canvas. Although not all the works selected for the programme are canonized sacred music, Lux Aeterna has been performed mainly in temples – their majestic interiors and voluminous acoustics enhance the emotional effect of this music.

The programme has been repeatedly presented at various Russian and European venues, including the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Moscow, the Church of Saints Zacharias and Elizabeth in Tobolsk, the Kollegienkirche in Salzburg, the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, and the Cathedral of the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God in Saint Petersburg. The compositions are to be performed by two ensembles under the direction of Teodor Currentzis — the musicAeterna choir and the musicAeterna byzantina choir specializing in the performance of church hymns of the ancient Byzantine tradition.

The strategic partner of the musicAeterna byzantina is the Aksenov Family Foundation. The choir’s official partner is the Absolut Insurance.
