Details
Prince André Mikhailovich Volkonsky, a descendant of the famous Decembrist, composer, organist and harpsichordist, stands at the origins of two major trends in Soviet music at once: the post-war avant-garde and historically informed performance.
A new monograph by the St. Petersburg publishing house Jaromír Hladík Press The Knots of Time. The Era of André Volkonsky. Memoirs, Letters, Research is a voluminous collection of works by and about Volkonsky. It contains the composer’s own texts, reminiscences of his relatives, friends and colleagues, as well as theoretical studies of his work. The timeline of André Volkonsky’s life, a complete annotated catalogue of his works, and a complete discography have been published for the first time. The book provides previously unpublished pages of correspondence, conversations and memoirs, as well as some of the already published texts. It systematizes the Soviet and foreign press to the premieres of works and concerts by Volkonsky.
