OpensoundOrchestra is a young chamber ensemble which performs new academic music and is open to the most unexpected collaborations, recording soundtracks for films, installations and video games. For the first time at Dom Radio, the soloists of OpensoundOrchestra will perform a chamber programme consisting of works by composers of the late 20th century.
These include Giya Kancheli, whose name became part of the modern history of world music already in his lifetime. His “Chiaroscuro”, based on a refined play of emotional contrasts, written for violin and chamber orchestra, will be performed in a version for string quartet. The poignant miniature “After Crying” for solo cello will be played by Olga Kalinova.
The legacy of Valentin Silvestrov is presented in the programme with two scores. Following the transparent and subtly nuanced Third String Quartet, an elegiac Postlude for violin solo will be performed by Stanislav Malyshev.
Another member of the quartet, Ksenia Zhuleva, will present “One Hundred Days of Solitude” by the Moscow composer Vladimir Ternopolsky — a music piece for viola solo and phonogram, woven from sharp pizzicato, suspense and a striking denouement. The work, written by the composer two years ago during a period of forced self-isolation, introduces the title of Marquez’s novel into the context of a pandemic, and the names of Alexander Vustin and Dmitry Smirnov, the composers who died from COVID, are encrypted in the sounds A and D, central to the entire score.
