Details

The performance of Schubert’s music at Dom Radio will be a live premiere of the album, in which, as if in a novel, the listener/reader lives through different periods and episodes of the hero’s life together with him. ’Schubert is the only composer of the 19th century whom I never wanted to “throw off the ship of modernity“,’ admits Anton Batagov. ’My ship has been drifting through different versions of “modernity”, and Schubert’s music always sounded like something very intimate and at the same time expressed in an absolutely perfect form. You feel like coming back to this music again and again. It never gets obsolete or boring. It has always fascinated me that Schubert seems to be hovering between the so-called classicism and the so-called romanticism. He is too subjective to be classically flawless, and too reserved to be in the territory of romantic “Sturm und Drang” (storm and stress). He always stays aside and makes his endless Winterreise in complete solitude.’
