On tour across China in autumn 2026, the musicAeterna Orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis will perform two programmes with music by Mozart and Beethoven. Music by the Viennese classics will be performed at the authentic tuning of A=430 Hz on historical instruments.
The concert dedicated to Mozart will open with the cheerful overture to the opera Le nozze di Figaro and continue with Piano Concerto No. 23, written in the same year, 1786. For Mozart, A major is the key of soulful joy, and Piano Concerto No. 23, one of the finest works in the composer’s legacy, embodies this feeling in all its shades. The first part of the concert is gentle and narratory, with themes that do not compete, but complement each other. The finale of the cycle was once described as follows: ‘It seems as if a fresh wind and a bright ray of sunlight are rushing into a stuffy and dark room.’ The heart of the concerto is, of course, its middle movement, the famous melancholic Siciliana, which is often performed on its own.
The Symphony No. 41 was dubbed Jupiter after the composer’s death, but the title accurately reflects its essence. This is Mozart’s last, largest, and most ‘Beethovenesque’ symphony. Solemn heroism and epic scale, combined with intricate contrapuntal writing and sophisticated compositional techniques, transform this music into a hymn to Classicism, with its clarity of mind and cheerfulness of spirit.
