On April 27-29, 2021, St. Petersburg will host the first international festival of national silent cinema Intertitles, which brings together foreign films of the early 20th century, unknown to Russian audiences, with music performed by the musicAeterna orchestra. The theme of the first festival is ‘Dutch Angle’.
The festival programme includes rare silent films, created before the era of expressionism and documentary sound cinema, that brought fame and recognition to the cinema of the Netherlands. Dutch silent cinema, which traces its origins back to 1896, is one of the earliest and least studied national cinemas.
