Sacred Music by Soviet Composers

We’re now sharing with you the recording of “Sacred music by Soviet composers of the second half of the 20th century”, the lecture that concluded the Schnittke-focused Modern Audience Laboratory.

In the video, you can hear a talk on music composed by the previous century’s masters — from Alexander Arkhangelsky all the way to Alfred Schnittke. Georgi Kovalevsky (Candidate of Art History, musicologist and researcher at the music department of the Russian Institute of Art History) discusses the composers’ difficult, almost martyr-like and often innovative experiences of returning to religious themes in the atheist era.
