Program

The cycle of the Soviet parallel cinema screenings will be continued by Boris Kazakov’s retrospective. The artist from Saint Petersburg uses film which he finds in archives, warehouses and landfills, and then paints on it in his village workshop.

Details

This is how bizarre films with people-trees, fantasy animals, absurdist details appear, which merge organically with the phenomena of the Soviet and post-Soviet underground: social art, the mit’ki aesthetics, necrorealism. The screening at Dom Radio will provide a rare chance to compare Kazakov’s tapes in digital and analogue formats.

Among the 13 works included in the retrospective programme there are animated films based on the cartoons of the poet and artist Gavriil Lubnin, a clip for the song “Sasha” by the Kino band, and a video with music by pioneers of the Soviet electronics — “New Composers”.

After the screening the audience is welcome to participate in the discussion with Boris Kazakov and the curator of the Cinema Laboratory Tikhon Pendyurin.
