The soloists of the musicAeterna orchestra and choir will conduct a cycle of three chamber concerts dedicated to Soviet music of the 1920s in the Zotov Centre for Constructivism Studies. The cycle as a whole explores the musical discoveries of the early Soviet avant-garde.
The second concert of the cycle presents the public with three legendary names of the Soviet avant-garde era. Gavriil Popov’s thesis work which he completed on graduating from the conservatory — the Septet for an unconventional composition: flute, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, violin, cello and double bass — paradoxically became the most performed composition of the composer, who was repeatedly persecuted for “reflecting the ideology of hostile classes” and “formalism”, and who later “emigrated” professionally into film music.
