Details

Moscow Conservatory professor Yuri Martynov, a pianist, a harpsichordist, a specialist in the field of historical keyboard instruments, presents a programme dedicated to the early romantic piano and the music of Franz Schubert, including his works interpretation by his younger contemporary Franz Liszt.

The focus of Yuri Martynov’s concert will be on Shubert’s miniatures. These fully embody the features of the pianistic Biedermeier: timbre delicacy, transparency of texture, emphasized subjectivism, elysian picturesqueness; finally, modesty which hides pathos and drama under a mask of salon pleasantry, and lyrical poetry, which penetrates even into “purely musical” genres.

Out of fifty Liszt’s transcriptions, Yuri Martynov will perform ten works of different years. That of a concert pianist, the frenzied romantic Liszt’s perspective on Schubert’s songs will provide the audience with a special optics revealing unexpected features in the early romantic piano.
