Details
The book compiles texts by authors of different generations and views. The articles focus on major opera directors and their outstanding works, including productions by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, Patrice Chéreau, Ruth Berghaus, Barrie Kosky, Martin Kušej, and Romeo Castellucci.
The publication gives a unique insight into the recent history of director’s theatre, from the 1970s to the present day, and frees the topic from the captivity of trivial questions: ‘Why are they in jackets?’, ‘Is this a traditional production?’, ‘Why does the director despise the composer’s will?’
