Program

Next Thursday, May 13, we show Dear Hans, Lovely Peter by Aleksandr Mindadze as part of a collaborative project between the Dom Radio Cinema Laboratory and Lenfilm.

The story of friendship between a German engineer and a Soviet worker on the threshold of the war grows out of a tragic production error and an itching premonition of impending disaster. Before long, the invited experts working on the development of high-precision optics will be on the side of the enemy.

“After the great anti-fascist cinematography of the 20th century, it’s really hard to say anything new about a deal with the devil, defection to the other side, or breaking the psyche, but what makes this film unique is that its author concentrates on one brief moment of agony and examines it through a loupe; Hans is a fish that has already swallowed the hook and is twitching on the line in its last convulsions, as we are twitching with it.”
