The Dom Radio Cinema Laboratory shows Winterstilte, Sonja Wyss’ 2008 directorial debut, screened worldwide and selected for the Berlinale.
In Winterstilte, Wyss, on the one hand, turns to the language of Robert J. Flaherty (Nanook of the North), resorting to an almost documentary descriptiveness. On the other hand, she anticipates the later formed tradition of Matthew Barney’s films.
For Sonja Wiss, who has come to the cinema from contemporary art, the narrative is an ornament reconsidered as a sensual experience. It is a film of nuances, hints, and a particular sensual weaving where the documentary seems hyper-real.
