Details
The musicAeterna orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis and pianist Polina Osetinskaya will present an unconventional programme “Slow Music”. It represents a collection of slow movements from piano concertos written in different times from the Baroque era to the present day that will be performed without interruptions. The idea of the programme occurred simultaneously to Teodor Currentzis and pianist-composer Anton Batagov in 2015.
This time a new version of the programme including previously unreleased opuses will be presented. Pianist Polina Osetinskaya, known for her intellectualism, discernment in modern music, and programmes at the junction of music, literature and theatre, together with the musicAeterna orchestra turns a collage of works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Shostakovich, Barber and Pärt into a single piece of music an hour and a half long.
Each of the Adagios and Andantes on the programme represents an entire musical world. Despite the difference in the composers’ styles, the unity of meaning connecting them is obvious. The slow movements in the middle of the sonata-symphonic cycle from the 18th century to the present day are the musical embodiment of pausing, reflection, heart-to-heart conversation.
This is a lull between the acts of the life drama, a place and time for an intimate lyrical utterance, a space where one could hear the lonely voice of a person comprehending their own mortality and the eternity of love.
