Registration is closed

Program

On March 21, as part of the Modern Audience Laboratory, the historian and archivist Elena Krivtsova will give a lecture Prokofiev in Exile — the Story of Creativity, dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the great Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) and the 100th anniversary of the Russian Exodus (1920-1922).

Details

The musician’s strong connection to the world of Russian emigration, as well as the link between his fate and the tragedy of the Russian Exodus, could not be broken, neither by his worldwide fame of the composer and pianist, nor by his successful assimilation in European and American musical circles, nor by his return to the USSR, which still causes heated discussions. The lecture will focus on the creative tops of Prokofiev’s emigrant period, his opera The Fiery Angel (1919-1927, Op. 37), and his Third Symphony (1928, Op. 44), based on the musical material from the opera. The lecturer will also show rare photographs and documents related to this period in the composer’s life.
