Experimental Cinema Laboratory at Dom Radio presents premiere of a new episode of the experimental film by Yuri Leiderman and Andrey Silvestrov “Birmingham Ornament”.
The film premiered at the 2011 Venice Film Festival, but authors continue their research to blur the lines between contemporary art and modern cinema. The new episode was filmed several years ago in St. Petersburg. It features poet Alexander Skidan and art critic Pavel Gerasimenko.
Film mixes innovative forms of poetry, music, and theatre with existing traditions in attempt to overcome their boundaries. Film is made into some kind of an ornament, in which lines divided into fragments and intertwining with each other, form an integral poetic statement.
According to art critic Yekaterina Degot, after watching the film, “it becomes clear that any, even the most advanced independent cinema, in comparison with Birmingham Ornament, is an extraordinary mainstream, dogmatic and clear, not in the best sense of the word.”
Andrey Silvestrov, Yuri Leiderman, Alexander Skidan and Tikhon Pendyurin will take part in the Q&A after the film.
